Spacebus: Start Your School day in space
Creator, Producer, Writer
SpaceBus is an educational adventure podcast with a mission to launch kids to school, even if their desk is the kitchen table. This free remote learning resource helps parents & teachers start their elementary-aged kids’ school day on the right foot in about 6 minutes.
Mission-Driven CREATIVE
After talking with my educator and parent friends at the start of COVID-19, I discovered that young students were having difficulty transitioning to their school day from home while remote learning. Together with a bunch of amazing, talented people, I developed this podcast as a way to help kids mentally transition from home-time to school-time, while learning and having fun along the way. Our cast, editors, producers, and experts helped families & educators start their mornings right with 24 episodes of SpaceBus!
TURNING REAL EXPERTISE INTO REAL FUN
We integrated big-time lessons into fun bite-sized adventures to teach kids about all kinds of topics including: the Psychology of Anxiety with The Psych Show’s Dr. Ali Mattu, How to Compost with Eco Rappers Nate & Hila, Exoplanets with Folklorist & Astrophysicist Moiya McTier, and Media Literacy with NAMLE’s Michelle Ciulla Lipkin for U.S. Media Literacy Week. No concept was too big to teach these little brains! Our lessons worked more than just your mind – we collaborated with Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist Samantha Rothberg to help bring movement to the bus.
Combining Entertainment AND Education TO Help During Hard Times
We wanted to make remote learning easier by creating content that satisfied kids’ curious and story-driven brains. In each episode, we expanded the SpaceBus universe to keep kids engaged and coming back for more. We wanted kids to want to listen to SpaceBus every morning to help build a habit of transitioning easily from home to school. I also created a newsletter to help deliver new episodes to the inboxes of teachers and parents every weekday.
